Porcelain clay tends to droop in high fire glaze fire when it is thin. I was making a custom set of porcelain plates for a friend who admired the thinness of my plates. Because the plates drooped down rather than staying lifted from the foot of the plate, I had to change the design to not glaze the bottom side fo the plates.
I ended up really liking this style of a glazed top and naked bottom that I started making more plates in this style.
